2008 PA International Easter Open Pétanque Competition- 21-23 March 2008

Hat Trick slips from their grasp.
Having won the PA International Easter Open Pétanque Competition Over-60s Open title in 2006 and 2007 the Prospect Club’s team of Valmai Nicoll, Mike Mulvihill and Dave Ward was the team the others wanted to beat. Unfortunately after 2 days of competition 3 teams had, dashing their hopes of a third consecutive win.
“Bottled booty” for winning all their games in the Social Competition on Sunday provided some consolation for Prospect Club’s only representative team’s disappointing performance.

EPA pin          ...a special Prospect Pétanque "thank-you" to Mike Pegg, International Umpire and English Pétanque Association President for his International good-will gesture... may we one day play together...

President's report - 2008 Petanque Australia Easter International Open

Melbourne 27 March 2008,Petanque Australia logo

Dear members,
Our second International open is over and it was by all comments received a successful event, with a few little glitches nothing which cannot be sorted.
Our sincere congratulations must go to the organising committee for delivering a great venue and a good organisation with some great support from local members.
My personal thanks to the voluntaries that made the running of the event an easier task
The competition itself was run as per Pétanque Australia playing format but as the tournament director of the event I wasn’t given all information necessary at time as it was run on a different program with little information being made available.
I did apologise to some players who felt that they were unfairly treated by the introduction of a different scoring system (Point for instead of our usual delta system +/-), I only realised of the change once the poules were drawn and game had started.
The difference in the system was an issue for 2 teams missing out in qualification, those 2 teams having won 3 games out of their 6 qualifying games.
The lack of information provided to players was also an issue
- No published draw
- No ranking in their group
- No visual information on their poules
- No visual progression to the final
Those issues will be addressed and sorted for next year tournament.
A series of reports will be published and forwarded to all members and individual report will be forwarded to the organising committee, tournament co-ordinator, umpires and coaches by Pétanque Australia.
To all the players, officials, umpires and the organising committee thank you for your great support and understanding over the weekend.
Please find attached the results of our International Triple open in an attached document. Results will be published on PA website www.petanqueaustralia.com
Pétanque Australia at its next board meeting will fully assess the tournament and will officially announce next year venue.

Yours in pétanque,

Andre Deramond
President
Pétanque Australia
