Somebody said they had been told there was an old codger, with a full, long white beard wearing a red suit and a red beanie with a white pom-pom, asking directions to the Prospect Pétanque Club at a servo on the Main North Road.
We are not sure whether he tried to follow the directions and lost his way or whether he was pressed for time, but we are not sure he arrived. If he did arrive he couldn't have stayed for long as there were a few disappointed, unrequited club members whom had sent their Christmas-present lists to the committee.
How-some-ever... those not overly concerned with the present passed their time leisurely enjoying the "lavish spread" provided for the club members by that small band of hard-working souls. The club is eternally indebted to them... thank you!
| It can be said, that sometimes the winners of a best-of-five-games competition have had an easy draw, but when on reflection the winning team has beaten the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th best finishing teams in that competition... the winning team has earned its chops. |

For many years a regular Prospect Pétanque calendar item, the Dingo Cup has moved with sponsor Graham "Dingo" Clark, to the Eastern Suburbs Pétanque Club.
The exquisitely hand-crafted leather prizes (and who doesn't have one of Graham's highly-prized leather boule bags or at least a very useful life-time-lasting leather cochonnet holder?) provide incentive to for all to pit themselves against the best of Adelaide's pétanque players for the spoils.

"He is one of the good guys.
Look at how pétanque and trees combine very well together.
Petanque is the ideal game of boules which is played under natural shade;
a super plus under the hard Australian sun."

On arguably the worst Wednesday evening this year, a very small but committed group gathered for August’s *Super-Melee*. They were denied play because of the very cold and wet conditions but participated in the presentation made by Grant Ashmeade officiating on behalf of the *Super-Melee* organising team and Prospect Pétanque president Brett Williams. The recipient of the Winter *Super-Melee* Award was Jonathan Rousse (see insert). Needless to say the presentation was made inside the clubroom ahead of detailing of plans to sell the excess piste-water to the River Murray Authority. The next *Super-Melee* will be held on Wednesday 3rd September (Spring!)… be part of this fun-filled ‘social and skill’ event.

Sukrit helps Dad over the line!
The father/son combination provided the success needed for Mahesh Vaswani to claim three consecutive local petanque competition wins.
Still experimenting with different game formats, all teams played six 40-minute (maximum) games, had time to witness the prize presentation and still leave for home before 4.30 pm.

Way back when, before most of us knew what a boule was, 16 good people had the foresight and made the financial commitment to fund a fledgling pétanque club and get the “boule” rolling. These “foundation members” provided 10 years membership-fees up-front to provide the Prospect Pétanque Club with $1,600 capital to “kick-start” the developmental infrastructure needed to transform the defunct Prospect Gardens Women’s Bowling Club into a pétanque club. The rest is history and although the Cup was originally sponsored it is now hosted each year by the Prospect Pétanque Club in acknowledgement of this significant gesture by these “foundation members”.
“Cup honours” belong to John Wright for most wins when from 2002 till 2006 he won the cup for 5 consecutive years.
This is the first year when a Prospect member or ex-member has not been in the winning team.
Foundation members are:
- Jean Colbey & Jean Haddy
- Ian & Pene Davey
- Malcolm & Pauline Fleming
- Jean Philippe & Nora Gugliemi
- Deanna & Prem Malani
- Mike Mulvihill & Valmai Nicoll
- Allan Sanderson & Sue Waite
- Brett & Susan Williams

Prospect Pétanque Club cavaliers Jean Philippe, Maurice and Trudy encounter at arms length the awesome power of that other favourite French pastime – cycling! Although what must have seemed to the passing cyclists, a relaxing diversion from the hectic activity they were engaged in; not one rider stopped to throw a few boules.
Hosted by generous sponsors Jeanette and Fernando of “Chateau Dorrien” and organised by Stan Wilson of the Gawler Pétanque club, the event kept its promise of “Une course de Velo et La Pétanque”. The sensibly designed program incorporated set times to allow the participants to twice view the “flash past” of the Barossa stage of the “2008 Tour Down Under”.
Prospect Pétanque occupied the principale final with Maurice and Jean Philippe emerging victorious with a 13-10 win over Carol and Dave. |
