Vincent Michelin Cup - 30 September 2007 at Adelaide Club

Vincent Michelin - 93 years old.

In 1976 Vincent Michelin founded the Club de Pétanque d’Adelaide.
On Monday 1st October he turned 93.
The day before, at his Adelaide pétanque club, he hosted the “Vincent Michelin Cup” and celebrated his birthday with his pétanque brethren. Vince participated but after a full day on the piste the final was played far too late for him to make the presentations. No doubt, we will see him playing in his “Cup” next year.

Happy Birthday Vincent!

Members support our Club (roof)

PPI members replace roof beam 12 August 2007

On a Sunday in August when others went out to play (elsewhere), four Prospect Pétanque Club members (l-r), Alan Matthews, Marty Verdonk, Grant Ashmeade and Richard Voskamp leading with much brain and brawn, literally supported their club by replacing the main beam spanning the enclosure between the clubroom and the storeroom. A club like ours needs constant maintenance and the work behind the scenes is often unheralded…
thank you gentlemen!

July 14/Bastille Day Cup - 15 July 2007 at Adelaide Pétanque Club

Prospect players Dave Ward and Jean Philippe Guglielmi, with John Wright, showed their win last week at Prospect was no fluke with a convincing 13-1 win in the final of the very French "Juillet quatorze" (14 July) Cup at the Adelaide Pétanque Club. Lack of light denied a result in the Consolante final teams with Prospect Pétanque players Monique Moerland, Sebastien Ross & Carol Sewer and Maggie Morgan with Sandy and Dave Watson. [results].

Barossa Vintage Pétanque Cup - 15 April 2007 at Chateau Dorrien
The weather was splendid, reminiscent of late summer, but saved for this Sunday in the middle of autumn. It provided, for the relatively small number of players, a wonderful sensual pétanque experience. The play like the players’ temperament was convivial and the competition resolved itself as did the day in a final with the familiar clack of boules and gasps of the small remaining numbers of the faithful as the light faded behind the tall palms that fringe the delightful Chateau Dorrien Winery. As always only one team acquires the honour of being “The Champions” and this year this was claimed by Prospect Pétanque stalwarts; Marty Verdonk, Richard Voskamp and Alan Matthews. They stamped their authority on the final by defeating the formidable Wright family; John, Kevin and Josie with the creditable score 13-4 in a high quality game. Chateau Dorrien 2007 winners
[results] l.to r. Richard, Marty and Alan with prizes and hosts Fernando and Jeanette Martin of Chateau Dorrien.

To the perpetual trophy, this year, are added the names of Marty Verdonk, Richard Voskamp and Alan Matthews (PPI members). In the absence of PPI President the trophies and prizes were presented by Foundation member Mike Mulvihill.
