South Australia won the National Pétanque Championship - albeit in the Veterans Division at
Hanging Rock, Victoria - Easter Weekend.
It was loads of fun and proved that the old codgers can still play really well!!!
The guy in the middle of the other team (Sebastiano) is a fantastic player - shooting and pointing with great skill.
Our team is off to NZ in a couple of weeks to represent Australia - can't have too much pétanque!
We also had a friendly kangaroo wandering around all weekend - she had a baby (Joey). She jumped onto the piste during the singing of the National Anthem at the beginning of the tournament sending national shivers down the spines of all those lucky enough to witness the event.

Prospect Pétanque's premier annual event, the Snake Cup, was held in January.
Now a major national event, 35 teams competed for the Cup, many of whom were from interstate.
Kevin and James Wright (with team mate Pierre Bomarito) won the competition for the second year running, fitting as James was Jake (the Snake's) closest friend.
See picture of the triples team with Pierre Bomarito, below.
It is fair to say that the Cup means a great deal to both brothers.
Kevin and Josie Wright are a driving force, through their networking they attract strong support and the participation of interstate teams.
Kevin and James were given a memento by the Prospect Pétanque Club at a special presentation prior to the beginning of the tournament, pictured right. They are now the proud possessors of the two remaining boules belonging to a set owned by Jake.
The third boule is in the perpetual trophy which has been specially mounted (see first photo, below). |
